Policies
Our Safeguarding Policy We firmly believe that every child (under 16 years old), young person (between 16 and 18 years old) and vulnerable adult has the right to feel safe and secure and that they should not be exposed to abuse of any kind. We recognise that their health and wellbeing is both the moral and legal responsibility of everyone who comes into contact with them. In providing swimming lessons to children and adults and offering a first opportunity to enter work for young people, we are committed to ensuring that we provide them with a safe environment where they are well looked after, feel comfortable and can achieve their full potential. Not only do we have a duty to ensure that no harm comes to any child or vulnerable adult while they are on site to attend our swim school, we are also privileged to be able to build a relationship with them, as a result of which, they may feel that they can disclose information relating to abuse and/or neglect to us. Should we ever suspect abuse and/or poor practice taking place in relation to the treatment of a child, young person, or vulnerable adult, we are obliged to ensure that we take appropriate action, uninfluenced by our own emotions or experiences. Our obligations in the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults are therefore extensive and of paramount importance. We are committed to ensuring that safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities and government guidance and complies with industry standards and best practice. In all circumstances, the welfare and best interests of the children and young people with whom we have contact are paramount regardless of age, ability / disability, race, religion / belief, gender, sex, sexual orientation or socio-economic background. We acknowledge that some children may be particularly vulnerable to abuse as a result of one or more of the above characteristics and that we are responsible for taking reasonable and appropriate steps to ensure their welfare. Together, this should be taken by staff as the guiding principle underlying all conduct. Our policy and procedures aim to ensure that all children, young people and vulnerable adults: have a positive and enjoyable experience in a safe and child / young person centered environment; are protected from abuse while coming to, participating in and leaving their swimming lessons; have contact with someone with training in the signs of abuse occurring elsewhere and the appropriate action to be taken where suspicions arise.
